National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were, calling for an exhaustive investigation and immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Speaking on Wednesday at Lee Funeral Home, where he led fellow lawmakers to view the late MP’s body, Wetang’ula described the killing as a “cowardly and heinous act” that must be met with the full force of the law.
He urged the country’s criminal justice system to ensure that no stone is left unturned in identifying and prosecuting those responsible. “This is an unfortunate and heinous act. It must be met with the full force of the law,” Wetang’ula said, emphasizing the need for swift and decisive action by investigative agencies.

In response to growing concerns over the safety of lawmakers, Wetang’ula announced that Parliament would collaborate with the National Police Service to enhance the capacity of officers assigned to protect MPs. He also encouraged legislators to fully utilize their designated security personnel to safeguard their lives.
Plans for the late MP’s final rites are underway, with his body set to be airlifted to Homa Bay County on Thursday. His burial will take place on Friday in Kachien Village, Kasipul Constituency, and is expected to attract numerous high-ranking dignitaries and political leaders from across the country.
