Wetangula Endorses PA For Bungoma Senator

Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula has nominated his longest-serving personal assistant Wafula Wakoli to be the next Bungoma County Senator.

Wetang’ula, a Kenya Kwanza Alliance principal, confirmed on Friday, August 19, that he will replace outgoing Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi as per his pre-election agreement with President-Elect William Ruto.

According to the election agreement, the Head of State would be from the Rift Valley, the Deputy President from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, and the Speaker of the National Assembly from the Western region.

In addition, if William Ruto won the elections for president, which he did, the region was to receive at least 30% of all national government appointments.

“I am going to be the Speaker of the National Assembly, the third in command of the country. I want to assure the Kenya kwanza Alliance team we have our numbers so no problem,” Wetang’ula said.

In the event that the Supreme Court upholds William Ruto’s election as the fifth President-elect, Wetang’ula is expected to take over as Speaker of the National Assembly.

This will prompt the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to declare the Bungoma Senate seat vacant, resulting in a by-election in which the lion’s party has already endorsed Wafula Wakoli.

Wakoli is Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula’s longest-serving personal assistant.

Wakoli was a Kiswahili teacher at Milima Secondary School before entering politics.

Wakoli, who has remained loyal to the party and played a critical role in ensuring that the party delivers in the Tuesday, August 9 elections, was endorsed by Ford Kenya leaders elected in the recently concluded General Elections.

Regarding his next responsibilities, Wetang’ula stated that he will pray to God for the wisdom to carry out his responsibilities diligently in order to ensure that the Kenya Kwanza government makes Kenya a great nation not only in Africa, but throughout the world.

“I will pray to God to give me the continued wisdom that I carry so that I lead the national assembly in partnership with the Senate to make good laws for this country to make sure Kenya will not be the same again,” Wetang’ula said.
