WHO Gives Kenyatta National Hospital an Advanced Life-Support Ambulance

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has welcomed a new, fully equipped ambulance donated by the World Health Organization in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

The vehicle is one of 14 emergency ambulances provided to seven national referral hospitals and the National Emergency Response Centre.

The donation is part of ongoing healthcare reforms under the Universal Health Coverage agenda, aimed at strengthening emergency care, improving referral systems, and enhancing service delivery in high-demand institutions.

For KNH, the advanced life-support ambulance will bolster emergency response capacity, provide broader access to medical oxygen, and improve care for critically ill patients. It also reinforces the National Emergency Ambulance Service Center and the 999 emergency response system.

The fully equipped unit was officially received by Mr. Job Makanga, Senior Director of Corporate Services, on behalf of the hospital’s CEO, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe.

Officials said the ambulance will play a crucial role in responding to emergencies across the city and beyond, ensuring timely intervention and better outcomes for patients in critical condition. The hospital praised WHO’s support as a key contribution to Kenya’s ongoing efforts to enhance health services and strengthen emergency medical care nationwide.

KNH remains committed to improving emergency medical services and providing high-quality care to patients, with the new ambulance expected to make a significant impact on response times and patient outcomes.
