Prominent Atlanta lawyer Drew Findling, known for his involvement in the hip-hop community, is defending former President Donald Trump in the Georgia election interference case.
Despite his history of liberal political views and criticism of Trump, Findling has taken up the defense against the indictment, which includes charges of racketeering and 12 other felony counts related to Trump’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results in the state.
Findling’s diverse clientele includes Atlanta rappers like Migos, Gucci Mane, and Cardi B. He has gained recognition in the hip-hop world, earning nicknames like “witch doctor” and “Billion Dollar Lawyer.”
Interestingly, he donated to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s campaign in 2020, the same prosecutor who brought charges against Trump.
Findling’s representation of Trump highlights his commitment to impartiality, as he dismisses the notion of choosing clients based on political beliefs. Trump’s attack on Willis, whom he referred to as “Phoney Fani,” adds another layer of complexity to the case. The indictment, encompassing 41 crimes across 19 defendants, prompts curiosity about Trump’s defense strategy.
Findling previously suggested he would lean on the First Amendment to validate Trump’s infamous January 2021 call with Raffensperger, in which Trump asked him to “find” the 11,780 votes he needed to tip the results in his favor. Findling characterized Trump’s request as a bid to “negotiate a resolution” and compared it to a rap song taken out of context.
“Somebody listens to a rap song that lasts for four minutes and 11 seconds and pulls one verse out and tries to conjure up some type of criminal case out of it,” he said.
