The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Wednesday that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) appears to be showing signs of containment, with no new confirmed or probable cases reported since October 1.
In its latest update, the UN health agency said that as of October 5, a total of 64 cases had been recorded in Kasai Province, including 11 probable cases and 43 deaths, among them 11 classified as probable deaths.
“As of 5 October 2025, ten days have passed without any newly reported cases, indicating potential control of transmission in the affected areas,” the WHO stated.
The agency said the continued absence of new infections marks a positive step toward halting the spread of the virus but cautioned that ongoing surveillance, contact tracing, and community engagement remain crucial to fully end the outbreak.
Ebola, a highly contagious and often fatal disease, is transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected people or contaminated materials.
The DRC has faced several outbreaks in recent years, with health authorities and international partners working to strengthen rapid response and vaccination efforts.
The WHO said it will maintain heightened monitoring in Kasai and surrounding regions over the coming weeks to confirm whether transmission has been completely stopped.
