The High Court in Nairobi has postponed the case’s hearing because journalist Jacque Maribe, one of the defendants in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, became ill.
Judge Grace Nzioka adjourned the trial to July 18, 2022, after Maribe’s defense attorneys claimed she was ill and unable to appear in court.
She was being treated at the Imenti Medical Center in Nairobi, and the court was made aware of this.
“She has been appearing in court without fail and has been traumatized by this case as indicated earlier. Give her a benefit of doubt,” said defence lawyer Prof Hassan Nandwa.
Wangui Gichuhi, the case prosecutor, requested that a warrant of arrest be issued against Maribe on the basis that there were no documents presented regarding the alleged illness.
“We sympathize with her position but it has put us in a difficult position because no document in relation to the illness or the manner of treatment,” said Gichuhi.
Maxwell Otieno, the principal investigator in the murder case, was set to continue testifying.
Monicah’s body was discovered in her bath tab at her posh Kilimani residence in Lamuria Gardens Apartment, off Dennis Pritt Road, on September 19, 2018.
Her hands and legs were bound. Her neck was slipping ear to ear.
She had just returned from Juba, Sudan, where she was conducting various business ventures.
