Widow To Slain Kayole Suspect Recounts Last Day Alive

Vincent Owuor, who was on a watch list in connection with a multimillion-shilling bank heist, was shot dead in Kayole, Nairobi County on March 24, 2020.

This was roughly six months after police had arrested him over a robbery at an ATM in Nairobi West, during which Ksh 72 million was carted away.

Dorcus Wamaitha, the widow to the late Vincent today took the stand to narrate to court what transferred on the fateful day.

She told the court prior to the murder of Vincent, he had informed her that a police officer namely, Vincent from Kayole police station had threatened him to vacate Kayole or he would face death.

It was this threat that forced the deceased to shift to Thika with his family where they resided for six months.

However, she told the court that she had travelled to Kayole with her husband and their child to visit her sister-in-law after being away for the 6 months.

It was her testimony that throughout their stay the In-law’s house, her husband did not attempt leaving the office for fear of being killed by the police.

Nevertheless, on the material day at 1:00 pm, the deceased said he was to shave at Kayole Junction.

The widow told court that after 30 minutes she received a call from her friend who informed her that her husband had been killed.

She tried calling her husband, but the phone went unanswered, she later went to the crime scene only to discover a pool of blood covered with soil.

She later discovered the body of her late husband at City Mortuary with bullet wounds.

The shooting triggered an investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, which unearthed the circumstances that led to his demise including, that it was occasioned by actions of police officers.

In recommendations to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Authority sought to have six officers charged with murder.

The officers, at the time attached to Kayole Police Division are, Corporals Vincent Odhiambo and Joseph Ojode, as well as Police Constables Henry Mutai, Ali Bashir Charles Kirimi and James Ngige.
