Kabogo Protests Kenya Kwanza Power-Sharing Deal

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has threatened to leave the Kenya Kwanza Alliance if Deputy President William Ruto fails to explain how his administration will benefit Mount Kenya.

The Tujibebe Wakenya party leader stated at a rally on Thursday, May 12, that he had called the DP about the matter after the contents of the Kenya Kwanza power-sharing deal were leaked to the media.

“I have seen the coalition agreement between UDA, Ford Kenya, and ANC. I held talks with Ruto in Dubai and he asked what I wanted. I told him that I did not wish to get any position for myself or my wife. The only thing I told him is that his government must ensure the Mt Kenya region gets its fair share of the government revenue.”

He insisted that he was not interested in any position, but expressed concern that the document did not include the vote-rich region.

Kabogo said he met with Ruto in Dubai and was promised that the region would receive a fair share of the government and resources in Ruto’s administration.

“I have called him and challenged him to explain why they are sharing seats and the agreement has no mention of the interests of the Mt Kenya region. If he does not correct that, I will leave since the election is yet to be held,” he stated.

Even if they were a small party, the former governor who joined Kenyan Kwanza this year stated that their departure from the faction would be felt.

Musalia Mudavadi of the Amani National Congress (ANC) and Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya were promised 30% of Ruto’s government in the Kenya Kwanza deal if they delivered 70% of the Western Kenya votes to Ruto.

Mudavadi was also promised a senior cabinet position similar to that of Prime Minister, while Wetangula’s party was promised the speakership of the Nation Assembly.

On the other hand, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is expected to produce the presidential candidate (Ruto) and his running mate.
