On February 3, 2023, the long journey in search of justice for the souls of Willie Kimani, his client Mwenda, and their driver Muiruri came to an end.
However, according to Willie Kimani’s father, the wounds and scars of losing their loved ones are still fresh for the victims’ families.
Seven years later, a seemingly bereaved Paul Kinuthia still dreads the day they learned of his son’s death.
Throughout the 7-year hearing period, memories of his slain son lingered in his mind.
He described how, due to financial constraints, he wore the same outfit to every court session since the case began in 2016, and relied on a well-wisher to make it to court throughout the case.
“For the seven years, we’ve been in court, I’ve worn the same clothes he bought for me before he was killed,” Kinuthia explained.
Kimani’s Difficult Educational Path.
Kinuthia added that despite the family’s middle-class economic status, they struggled to raise and cater for Kimani’s educational expenses. For Kinuthia and the rest of the family, seeing Kimani graduate as a lawyer gave them hope for a better future and a way out of poverty.
The Stolen Hope
However, the 2016 murders left the family without Kimani, who used to offer assistance to the family.
His tone indicated that he was dissatisfied with the sentence handed down to Kimani’s perpetrators, stating that he wished for harsher punishment.
