Win To KRA As Court Orders Contraband Milk Powder Seized In Eastleigh Be Surrendered To State

It’s a big win to the Kenya Revenue Authority after a Nairobi Court today allowed their application to forfeit and dispose of consignment of contraband milk powder confiscated in Eastleigh.

Milimani Magistrates Court in Nairobi today allowed an application by the state to forfeit and dispose a recovered and seized consignment of assorted brands of uncustomed milk powder products.

The consignment to be forfeited comprises of 3 tins each 2.5kgs of Fresh Milk Powder, 157 tins each of 2.5Kgs of Anchor Milk Powder.

Other assorted milk to be forfeited include 52 tins of 2.5Kgs each of Hilwa Milk Powder, 33 tins of 2.5Kgs of Nura Milk Powder, 5 tins each of 2.5Kgs of Hanan Milk Powder, 68 tins of 800gms of Aptamil Milk Powder, 6 tins each 800gms of SMA pro breast milk powder, 38 tins of 400gms of Nan Optipro Milk Powder, 408 tins of 400gms of Cow and Gate milk powder.

According to the order, the forfeited assorted milk will be disposed of pursuant to section 215 and 217 (2)(a) of the East African Community customs management Act 2004.

The said consignment is believed to have emanated from a multi-agency team raid at J&G building in Eastleigh Estate situated at Starehe Sub-County within Nairobi county.

The raid tool place on February 13, 2024 after a trader known as Yahye Abdisalaam Ahmed was arrested and arraigned in for having in his possession contraband milk contrary to the Law.

Upon his arrest, he was arraigned in Court on February 14, 2024 and on April 17, 2024 pleaded guilty.

He was convicted on his own plea of guilty and sentenced to pay a fine of Ksh 235, 000.
