Wiper Party has distanced itself with an impeachment motion filed by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement shared by the Wiper Secretary General, Shakillah Abdalla on October 1, the Wiper party opposed the proposed impeachment motion.
“For the sake of clarity, Kibwezi West MP Hon. Mwengi Mutuse is a member of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, associated Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Dr. Alfred Mutua, which is a constituent party of the Kenya Kwanza coalition,” reads the satement in part.
“This distinction is important in understanding the political alignments and affiliations in Kenya. We would also want to reiterate that The Wiper Democratic Movement opposes the proposed impeachment motion against the Deputy President.”
The Wiper party was responding to an impeachment motion that was tabled in the afternoon on Tuesday October 1 by the Kibwezi West legislator on the floor of the National Assembly.
Mutuse filed an impeachment motion, reporting that 291 MPs had appended their signatures in support, meeting the threshold for impeaching the DP.
Among the legislators who appended their signatures include Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah and Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi.
The impeachment motion was welcomed by several MPs from both sides of the political divide after Mutuse tabled it.
