The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Wiper Democratic Movement party has pledged to support its leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the party’s presidential candidate in 2027.
The faction, led by the party’s Secretary General Shakila Abdala and Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, expressed confidence in Musyoka’s fellow Azimio la Umoja One Kenya co-principals supporting his candidature.
“Msimamo wetu uko na Azimio na Kenya yote…most importantly is that Kenyans have endorsed Dr Kalonzo Musyoka. Watch this space…100% of hustlers are speaking to Kalonzo Musyoka,” Mule said.
Citing the rising cost of living, the party also threatened to take to the streets or legally impeach the current regime if the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), co-chaired by Musyoka, failed to address how the high cost of living will be addressed.
The MPs, who spoke to the press after the party’s NEC meeting on Tuesday, vowed to keep the Kenya Kwanza administration on its toes in order to heed Kenyans’ plea.
“If the cost of living for Kenyans will not go down, then the bipartisan talks will not go anywhere. There are other issues but our priority is the cost of living. Kenyans are hurting…prices have risen…and we can’t afford to suffer for the next three years,” Abdalla said.
“Ata kama ni kwa streets ama impeachment, we will go. We have a Constitution which is very clear and gives the mwananchi the powers to do whatever they can to ensure their lives are in control. For one year we have had enough and we cannot continue that way for the next four years.”
This comes as Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u is set to appear before the dialogue committee on Wednesday to help them break the cost of living impasse.
