Wiper Summons Kitui Speaker Kevin Kinengo Over Alleged Party Disloyalty

The Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) has summoned Kitui County Assembly Speaker, Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, to appear before its Disciplinary Committee over allegations of defying party policies and siding with the ruling Kenya Kwanza government.

In a letter dated this week, the party’s disciplinary organ said it had reviewed Kinengo’s written response, submitted on June 26, to an earlier notice to show cause. The committee has since determined that there is sufficient basis to proceed with disciplinary action.

The Speaker has been allegedly contravening the party’s opposition stance by participating in stat a State House meeting hosted by President William Ruto—a move Wiper views as undermining party cohesion. Kinengo attended the meeting alongside several Kitui MCAs and professionals.

He has also been participating in Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s rallies in Kitui County.

“You are invited to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on 14/7/2025 at 2:00 PM at the WDM Headquarters in Karen,” the letter reads in part.

It adds that he may be represented by counsel and will have an opportunity to cross-examine the complainant, in line with the party’s constitution.

The committee underscored its commitment to fair procedure, but also warned that failure to attend the hearing would not halt the process. “Deliberations will proceed, and a decision rendered in your absence,” the letter stated.

A copy of the formal complaint and a link to a recorded speech by Uzalendo News, central to the case have been provided, with a physical copy and production certificate available at the party offices.

Speaker Kinengo has however affirmed that he will not be coerced by politicians on his own stance, vowing to throw his support behind the government.

“I confirm being invited to attend a hearing before the Wiper Disciplinary Committee. I will act accordingly in defense of the rule of law and democracy as provided by the Constitution of Kenya 2010, the Political Parties Act, and other relevant laws. I will not tolerate or succumb to party dictatorship, intimidations and complete disregard for the rule of law.”
