Woman And Child Killed in Nakuru – Eldoret Highway Accident

Two people have been confirmed dead, including a seven-year-old boy, after a trailer collided with a matatu along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

At least 10 other people sustained serious injuries.

The accident, according to eyewitnesses, involved a PSV vehicle and a trailer loaded which was ferrying logs.

The trailer reportedly lost control and rammed a 14-seater matatu. Eyewitnesses say several passengers were trapped under the trailer.

“A woman and her child were standing when a trailer came from nowhere and knocked them,” Hillary Chwea, a resident in Ngata, said.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene to assist those injured.

Bodies were taken to Nakuru city Mortuary as vehicles were redirected through the Njoro interchange.

The incident caused a significant disruption along the busy highway, forcing police to redirect traffic through the Njoro Interchange as cleanup and investigations continued.

Residents of the Ngata area have called on authorities to enhance safety measures along the highway, lamenting that their repeated pleas have been ignored despite frequent accidents in the region.

“We have complained about this for a long time. It shouldn’t be a plea at this rate. It’s a necessity. We need service lanes,” one resident told the media.

“Every time I drive through this area, I wear my heart on my sleeve because trailers are parked along the road and you can see several oncoming from a distance.”
