Woman Arraigned for Trafficking Cannabis Worth Over KSh 3 million in Kisumu

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has charged a woman with trafficking narcotic drugs valued at more than KSh 3 million.

Nancy Atieno Otieno was arraigned before the Nyando Law Courts on Thursday, where she faced charges under Section 4 as read with Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, No. 4 of 2022.

According to the prosecution, Otieno was found on September 8, 2025, at Padaol in Ahero, Kisumu County, in possession of 103.05 kilograms of dry cannabis with an estimated street value of KSh 3,091,500.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutor Rodgers Morara opposed her release on bail or bond, arguing that the seriousness of the offence and the risk she could pose if released warranted her continued detention.

The court ordered that Otieno be remanded at Kisumu Women’s Prison pending a ruling on her bail and bond terms, which is scheduled for October 1, 2025.

Authorities say the case underscores ongoing efforts to combat the trafficking of narcotics in the region.
