A woman was on Monday, June 23, 2025, arraigned at the Thika Law Courts to answer to three criminal charges including theft, possession of stolen property, and malicious damage.

The suspect is accused of stealing a 43-inch Vitron television worth KSh 21,500 from one Dennis Makau Matheka at Kiganjo Corner 2 in Thika West, Kiambu County.

Prosecutors further allege she was later found in possession of the stolen TV and had willfully damaged property.

She was arrested on Thursday, June 12, but during her appearance in court, the accused raised concerns about the legality of her detention, claiming she was held for more than 24 hours before being presented in court, which is contrary to constitutional requirements.

The presiding magistrate granted her release on a cash bail of KSh 150,000. The case is scheduled for mention on October 7, 2025, while the hearing is set to begin on August 1, 2025.

The court directed that the complaint regarding the delayed arraignment would be addressed during the upcoming proceedings. The suspect remains out on bail as investigations and preparations for trial continue.
