Police in Bomet County have arrested a 32-year-old woman following the fatal stabbing of her husband during a domestic dispute at a local bar.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday morning after an argument between the couple escalated into a violent confrontation that left the man dead.
Bernard Kipkoech, 36, died from his injuries after being stabbed in the neck by his wife, Sharon Cherotich, at a drinking establishment in Chepalungu Sub-county.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. at a bar located about one kilometer south of Kapkuen Police Station in Kaplele village.
Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed the incident, stating that initial investigations suggest the fatal attack occurred during a heated argument between the couple while they were drinking at the establishment.
“A couple that was taking drinks within a certain bar went after each other, causing the husband, one Bernard Kipkoech aged 36 years, to be pierced by one Sharon Cherotich, 32 years, who is the wife,” Imbwaga stated.
According to police investigations, Cherotich allegedly smashed a beer bottle during the altercation and used the broken glass as a weapon to stab her husband.
“Bernard was pierced on the neck, thereby sustaining injuries with a lot of blood oozing,” the police commander explained.
Following the attack, Kipkoech was rushed to Tennek Mission Hospital for emergency treatment. However, medical staff pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody following the incident. Crime scene experts from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were dispatched to process and document the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
