Woman Arrested at JKIA with Cocaine Pellets to Be Arraigned in Court

A 26-year-old woman arrested for attempting to smuggle cocaine through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is set to be arraigned in court today.

Wendy Mbeke Muli was intercepted by Anti-Narcotics detectives on June 13 after exhibiting suspicious behavior while preparing to board an outbound flight. Authorities say her uneasy demeanor during routine screening prompted further scrutiny, during which it was discovered that she had ingested foreign substances to conceal drugs.

“Mbeke was intercepted by hawk-eyed detectives at around 10:00 a.m., just minutes before boarding her flight,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.

She was placed under immediate medical observation. Later that day, she requested to use the washroom, where she excreted two drug pellets. The following day, she expelled six more pellets, bringing the total to eight.

The pellets were found to contain cocaine weighing approximately 626.65 grams.

The DCI praised the vigilance of its officers and reiterated its commitment to curbing drug trafficking through Kenya’s airports. Mbeke is expected to face drug trafficking charges in court.
