Woman Arrested In Marsabit With Grenades And Teargas Canisters

A 24-year-old woman was arrested with three grenades and teargas canisters at Sololo in Marsabit on Thursday morning.- By John Mutiso.

According to the DCI, the woman was travelling in a Nanyuki Sacco vehicle that was heading to Marsabit town from Moyale on the Kenya-Ethiopia border. The woman was arrested by multi-agency security team which was acting on intelligence.

“The explosives discovered by a multi agency team of officers comprising of our Police and AP counterparts, had been carefully concealed in a handbag belonging to the suspect,” the DCI said.

Her handbag also had a mobile with videos indicating a militant group in training sessions.

DCI’s Anti Terror Police officers have since taken over investigations into the matter and are yet to establish the exact location where the explosives were destined, though it is believed that they were headed to the capital city.

Police also arrested the driver of the vehicle as a person of interest to assist with the investigations.

“In this regard, the driver of the vehicle was also arrested as a person of interest, to assist detectives with investigations,” said the DCI.

Reportedly, the DCI thanked the members of the public for raising alarm by providing relevant information that led to the arrest. He also urged those with more information to report to the nearest police station.
