A middle-aged woman has been charged in court for impersonation after allegedly attempting to secure a teaching position using forged academic documents at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) offices in Laikipia North.
The accused, identified as Caroline Makena, reportedly visited the TSC offices in Laikipia North Sub-county on May 8, 2023, seeking deployment as a teacher. During the visit, she is alleged to have falsely identified herself as Kairuthi Caroline Kubai, fully aware that the identity was not hers.
Makena faces multiple charges, including presenting a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate that had been legitimately issued to Kairuthi Caroline Kubai by the Kenya National Examination Council. She allegedly used this certificate to deceive the Sub-county Education Officer into believing it was hers.
In addition, she is accused of unlawfully using Kairuthi’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in a bid to secure employment as a teacher.
Prosecutors also claim that Makena used a National Identity Card and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN belonging to another individual, further misrepresenting herself in her application.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi at the Milimani Law Courts, Makena pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court granted her release on a cash bail of Ksh 100,000.
