Woman Denies Property Damage Charges—Says Baby Daddy Is Evading Child Support

A woman accused of malicious destruction of property in Ngoingwa, Thika West sub-county, has pleaded not guilty, claiming the case was orchestrated by her child’s father to avoid financial responsibility.

The accused was charged with damaging property worth KSh30,000 belonging to Lucy Njoroge on 10th September 2025. The damaged items included a water meter and a solar-powered security light.

In court, the accused stated that Lucy Njoroge is the wife of her former lover, with whom she has a child. She alleged that the man is using his wife to file false charges against her in an attempt to escape paying child support.

She told the court that their child had been sick and admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital for a month, and that the father had failed to contribute towards the medical bills. According to her, he had also been reported to the children’s department and summoned, but had never honored the summons.

“I have been borrowing money from friends for my baby’s treatment. I only asked him for help, not this,” she told the court, adding that she could not even afford bail and requested for a KSh 2,000 bail, saying that’s the only amount she could possibly raise.

The court considered her financial situation and arguments, and granted her a personal bond of KSh 20,000. The case is still ongoing.
