Police in Tororo district, Uganda, has detained a one, Vincent Emodo over illegal possession of firearms.
Emodo was arrested on Sunday evening after police received a tip-off about a gun hidden under his bed in Pereje Cell, Pereje Ward, Apokor Town Council, within Tororo District.
According to Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the tip-off came from Josephine Nyapendi, who claimed to be possessed by holy spirits, which led her to disclose the location of the gun.
“The information was provided by Nyapendi Josephine, who claimed that she had become possessed by holy spirits, prompting her to disclose the presence of the gun to Onyapidi Alfonse, who was conducting prayers at the time,” Rusoke said.
Rusoke, mentioned that during the search, police discovered an SMG rifle with a bullet already loaded.
“A further search of Emodo Vincent’s home revealed one magazine containing 29 rounds of ammunition,” he added.
According to the police spokesperson, Emodo had fled to evade arrest when the weapon was found.
However, police managed to capture him on October 27, 2024.
