A woman is undergoing treatment after being shot for what police say, is a mistaken identity for the wanred cop killer Caroline Kangogo.
Ken Muyundo, a licensed firearms holder, shot Phanice Chemutai Juma in the abdomen at the Kiminini Market in Trans Nzoia County on Thursday evening, July 8.
Chemutai had been contacting Muyundo, seeking to meet him in Kiminini Market, Muyundo told police.
He said that he and Chemutai were strangers who had never met before.
In a report filed by the Standard, doctors confirmed that Chemutai is responding well to treatment and is in a stable state.
Chemutai is suspected of being wanted police officer Caroline Kangogo, who is accused of murdering two men in Nakuru and Kiambu counties, according to Muyundo.
Muyundo, the owner of the Iroko Hotel chain in Kitale, said to the Kiminini Police Station at 9:30 p.m., that he fired a bullet to scare Chemutai, whom he suspected of being a sought murder suspect.
As a result, Chemutai was apprehended by the police and detained for questioning.
Chemutai was, thereafter, taken to the Kitale Hospital for treatment.
