A businesswoman faces two years in prison if she keeps Sh271,200 that was sent to her M-Pesa account by mistake.
Elizabeth Karimi Muthoni acknowledged withdrawing the money that had been deposited to her agency account in error when she appeared before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Philip Mutua on Monday.
Mr. Bakar Hussein Mohamed, while purchasing an M-Pesa agent account in Kitengela, Kajiado County on July 14, transmitted the float money to the erroneous account, according to the court.
Ms. Muthoni, whose company is situated in Kitengela, owns the agency account.
The money had been withdrawn by Ms. Muthoni, whose firm is situated in Kitengela, and KCB Bank’s attempts to reverse the transaction failed.
