A woman from Githogoro slums detained on suspicion of murdering her 5-year-old cousin.
Susan Nasimiyu, from Trans Nzoia was arraigned before Milimani law courts where the prosecution sought 14 days detention order to investigate her over the offense of murder.
Facts surrounding the case is that the woman brought her cousin, Godwin Wekesa aged 5 years who was a total orphan from their rural home at Trans Nzoia, she had stayed with the Juvenile for around five months.
However, the lady stated that on December 8,2022 at around 7:00pm, when bathing the boy (now deceased) she detected injuries on his body. She then decided to take him to Kiambu level 5 hospital for medication where he was pronounced dead the following day.
According to the investigations officer, she reported the death of the boy to Police where the DCI from Kimabu visited the hospital and established that the deceased child had multiple historical wounds pointing to the possibility of child abuse by the reportee.
Upon being asked the real names of the parents of the deceased child she declined, nevertheless, she claimed to be housing two more minors whose safety was in doubt.
The prosecution told court that there was need to detain the anticipated suspect as her safety was in jeopardy since residents of Githogoro slums were very bitter with her.
Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi ruled that the prosecution had provided sufficient grounds to warrant detention of the suspect pending the conclusion of investigations and subsequent charging with the offence of murder should the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions deem it fit to charge her.
