The Hustler Fund will receive financing from the World Bank in order to help Kenya’s most disadvantaged population.
The pledge was made at a consultation between President William Ruto and Victoria Kwakwa, the regional vice president of the World Bank for Eastern and Southern Africa.
Ms Kwakwa said the Bank would support the Hustler Fund financially and technically.
“The bank associates strongly with programs and initiatives that empower the poor and most vulnerable. We will bring to the table ways to provide a safety net for these individuals” she said.
The Bank, according to Ms Kwakwa, would also fund the nation’s anti-climate change initiatives.
President Ruto acknowledged the contribution the bank has made to the growth of the nation.
The President urged the Bank to expand funding for initiatives to boost agricultural productivity, noting that the government was constructing dams and providing subsidies for fertilizer, among other things.
“We are looking forward to your support in our development agenda,” said the president.
