Wrestling legend and global pop culture icon Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71, following a suspected cardiac arrest at his Clearwater, Florida home, U.S. media has reported.
Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan was one of the most influential figures in the history of professional wrestling. His death was confirmed by the WWE, who hailed him as a trailblazer that helped transform the sport into a global spectacle during the 1980s.
“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s,” the company said in a statement.
Known for his muscular frame, iconic blond horseshoe moustache, and larger-than-life persona, Hogan’s influence extended far beyond the ring. His brand of “Hulkamania” inspired millions, with his charisma and signature catchphrases becoming a defining feature of the wrestling world.
He made his debut in 1977 and rose to stardom through high-profile matches against legends like André the Giant and The Rock.
Hogan had reportedly been battling health issues and was under medical supervision prior to his death.
