Yassin Moyo’s Murder: Teary Sister Narrates Brother’s Last Moments Before Police Shot Him

The sister to late Yassin Hussein Moyo, a 13-year-old boy allegedly murdered by police on March 30, 2020, during the Covid 19 Curfew enforcement, wept uncontrollably in Court as she recalled the last words of her late brother minutes before his untimely death.

According to the sister who happens to be the second prosecution witness, on the fateful day, at around 9:00 PM, Yassin was send by his mother to collect a phone which was in a charging system at the first floor of their house.

She told Court that when the deceased returned with the phone, he told them that there was some chaos from outside.

She proceeded to say that they immediately went upstairs to the balcony to get a better view of what was happening when they saw a group of people some wearing police uniform and others in civilian coming towards their house.

It was her recollection that the group split and went to different directions, however, one particular person wearing a long trench coat proceeded towards their house.

She said that he stood at an approximate distance of 15 meters and after some few minutes she heard a loud sound, and the late Yassin said he had been shot.

“He stood at a distance of approximately 15 meters, as he was standing there, we were all at the balcony and Yasin was standing on a seat at the balcony then I saw a light flickering then I asked my mom can this person shoot? my mom told me that he can’t because he is a police officer in his duties.

“Then just after asking that question we heard a loud sound then my mom told us to lie down, then immediately Yasin said he has been hit, then my big sister removed his shirt, and it was at that moment when my sister told us that Yasin has been shot. My sister carried Yasin to the ground floor and at that time he was saying all along that he can’t breathe ‘he was saying all along Sipumui nisaidieni,” recalled the sister amid tears.

The court heard that Yassin was taken to hospital at around 2am the following morning he was pronounced dead.

In the case, a police officer, Duncan Ndiema Ndiwah alias Champes was on June 19, 2020 charged with the murder of Yassin Hussein Moyo.

He has since denied the charges and case proceeds in Court.
