Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has differed with Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on his ultimatum to Counties to pay pending bills or legal action be taken against them.
The vocal Senator took to twitter to say that the statement by Matiang’i and the is an attack on devolution as they have no power to manage counties. He also faulted the controller of budget.
“You have no power to micromanage counties. Controller of budget doesn’t even respect her independence.” Murkomen said
The Elgeyo Marakwet legislator went on to criticize CS ukur Yattani, Trade CS Peter Munya who are former governors and former Turkana Senator John Munyes who now serves in the Petroleum and mining docket for supporting the move by Matiang’i.
“I would excuse Fred for his misguided unconstitutional statement. But the two former governors & former senator in this picture are a letdown.” He said
However, Matiang’i insisted that money has already been released to the counties and so far only 12 counties have paid pending bills addng that some governors are avpoiding to pay bills incurred during their predecessors’ tenure.
Matiang’i has also directed county governments to provide monthly status reports that would include an itemized list of all bills paid to show compliance to the orders.
