A quiet village in Bomet County has been plunged into grief and disbelief following the brutal killing of a 24-year-old female teacher by her husband after a domestic altercation on Monday night.
The horrific incident occurred in the Kiromwok area of Bomet County, where the body of the young woman was discovered lying in a pool of blood within the family compound. According to Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga, the victim sustained deep machete wounds to her head and hand, injuries believed to have been inflicted with a panga (machete).
The suspect, 27-year-old Lenox Kipngeno Korir, is reported to have fled the scene immediately after the attack and is currently on the run. Police have launched an intensive manhunt for Korir, but the murder weapon has not yet been recovered.
“This is a deeply distressing and tragic incident,” said Commander Imbwaga. “We are working tirelessly to locate and apprehend the suspect. We urge members of the public with any information regarding his whereabouts to come forward and assist the police.”
Preliminary investigations reveal that the couple had a troubled marital history marked by recurring domestic conflicts. Relatives of the deceased confirmed that previous attempts at family-led mediation had failed to resolve the couple’s disputes.
The victim, who has not yet been officially named pending notification of her extended family, was a teacher known in the local community for her dedication to education and youth empowerment. Her tragic death has shocked residents, many of whom described her as humble, hardworking, and kind-hearted.
“She was a bright light in this village, helping educate our children and encouraging girls to stay in school,” said one local resident. “Her death is a huge loss to all of us.”
Police moved the body to Longisa County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death. Investigators are also pursuing leads on the suspect’s possible hideouts and have called on residents to remain vigilant.
Bomet police have pledged to leave no stone unturned in the search for Korir and have emphasized the need for community cooperation to bring him to justice.
This incident adds to the growing number of gender-based violence (GBV) cases reported across Kenya in recent months, prompting renewed calls for stronger community support systems, legal reforms, and mental health interventions to address domestic abuse.
Local leaders, women’s rights advocates, and education officials have condemned the killing and called on authorities to fast-track the suspect’s arrest and prosecution.
“This is not just a crime against one woman; it is an attack on our entire community and on the right of every woman to live free from fear and violence,” said a local women’s group representative in Bomet.
As the investigation continues, the Bomet community remains in mourning, grappling with the senseless loss of a promising life and demanding justice for a teacher who gave so much to those around her.
