Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has emphasized the critical role of youth in driving change and shaping the future.
Speaking at Ithookwe Showgrounds during the Kitui County Youth Engagement Forum, the Governor noted that youth constitute 25% of Kenya’s population, or approximately 13.6 million people.
In Kitui County, this demographic represents a similar proportion, with an estimated 300,000 young people.
The forum, organized by the County Ministry of Youth, provided a platform for youth to engage with county leadership on pressing issues.
The initiative aimed to foster dialogue, propose solutions to social and economic challenges, and promote networking opportunities among participants.
Governor Malombe highlighted the importance of the forum in exploring employment and business opportunities across various sectors of the economy.
He emphasized the need for collaboration between the County Government, development partners, and government agencies to enhance support for youth-driven initiatives.
“This engagement is key in enhancing knowledge of available employment opportunities, facilitating networking, inspiring mindset change, and fostering proactive youth participation,” said the Governor.
Themed “Appreciating our individual and shared responsibilities in shaping the future,” the event attracted participants from all 247 villages in Kitui County.
The discussions featured keynote sessions, interactive panels, and collaborative brainstorming aimed at creating actionable solutions.
Governor Malombe reiterated the county’s commitment to empowering youth through partnerships and sustainable programs, noting that their active participation is essential in shaping a brighter future for Kitui and Kenya as a whole.
