Doctors at Langata Hospital have been forced to address members of the public after a crowd stormed the hospital demanding to know the health status of Nairobi Central Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Dishen Angoya.
Dishen Angoya was taken to Langata Hospital after his arrest, where he is being treated for blood pressure-related issues.
The crowd, which had assembled outside the hospital, sought to confirm whether the OCS was okay.
The youth forced medical staff to respond to inquiries about the condition of the senior police officer, prompting security officers to intervene and restore order.
Police prevented angry protesters from entering Lang’ata Hospital as they demanded the release of the Central Police Station OCS.
They demanded entry into the facility, but hospital management allowed only two of them, who are his lawyer inside.
One of the doctors clarified that the OCS had been taken to the hospital for treatment and was not handcuffed in his hospital bed.
“I a not a politician, I am here as doctor, it is true that the OCS is sick. We have not kept him here as a prisoner,” he said.
On of those allowed to see OCS Dishen, Eric Muriuki write, “Proof of life. We have seen OCS Dishen Angoya, he is under medical care and recuperating well. He has been placed under heavy security but equally Kenyans have camped outside Langata Hospital.”
“The good thing is that Dishon is strong, he knows he was acting within the law and Kenyans are in solidarity with him!”
Angoya had been arrested earlier over allegations of abuse of office, after claims that he unlawfully released 64 suspects held in connection with public order offences.
According to a police report, the Chief Inspector was arrested by the Deputy Regional Police Commander.
The OB report indicates the suspects had been arrested for offences relating to public order.
Angoya was placed in custody at Lang’ata Police Station pending further action, with the report noting he was complaining of high blood pressure.
He was expected to be arraigned at Kibera Law Courts on Tuesday morning.
