According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), Kenyans will benefit from lower electricity costs in November.

This comes after the Foreign Currency Rate Fluctuation Adjustment (FERFA) was reduced to 73.42 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) unit.

The reduction in FERFA costs, according to EPRA Director-General Daniel Kiptoo, offset the effect of a Ksh4.21 per kWh increase in the Fuel Cost Charge (FCC) for November electricity bills.

Last month, EPRA stated in a Gazette Notice that it had doubled the fuel cost levied per unit, despite the shilling’s continued depreciation against the dollar.

The new prices were Ksh3.97 per unit, up from Ksh3.88 in September when the authority charged for electricity use.

According to the notice, the price of power in Kenya would exceed Ksh25 per unit in October.
