Speeding Motorists To Blame For Accidents On Nairobi Expressway Works

The China Road and Bridge Construction (CRBC) company has issued an advisory on motorists using the Mombasa road, after a rise in accidents at trenches dug along the road. – By Gerald Gekara.

The company that is currently working on the much awaited Nairobi Expressway, noted the accidents were mostly as a result of motorists not utilizing speed notices.

Deep excavations especially at the General Motors footbridge where marked notorious for speeding vehicles which then end up in the ditch.

According to motorists plying the busy road, at least an incident of a car falling into the ditch was reported.

Since the onset of the construction, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued public advisories over the construction of the expressway, for motorists to avoid speeding on the highway.

Several safety walls have since been put up along the 27.1 Kilometer mandate of the CRBC.

With regular inspection of the busy highway, government officials have given the construction process a clean bill of health.

The China Road and Bridge Construction (CRBC) company say their work schedule is within time despite minor hiccups in relations to heavy rains and the traffic.

Major works that included a viaduct from the Southern bypass interchange to the Westlands area are well ahead of scheduled time.

The project is set for initial completion in December 2021, about 6 months ahead of the contracted time.
