15-Yr-Old Boy Linked With City Robbery Arrested After Dangerous Chase

A 15-year-old teenager suspected of being a member of a gang of armed robbers in the city has been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as the fight against emerging criminal gangs intensifies.

The suspect led the detectives on a dangerous chase along the Southern Bypass and inside the Nairobi National Park on Wednesday, November 9 evening.

He’d hidden behind a bush at first before throwing caution to the wind and running inside the park, oblivious to the dangers posed by hyenas, leopards, and lions.

After a 6-kilometer chase, the teenager was apprehended with the assistance of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Rangers. DCI detectives stood by as the park rangers cornered the suspect.

“Luckily, the boy was finally arrested and handed over to the duty officer Akila police station for action. The suspect whom it was established was from Kibera’s Lindi area, led the officers to a spot close to Wilson Airport, where they recovered a knife he uses to stab victims before taking off with their valuables,” the DCI said.

On further inquiry, the detective discovered that the boy had been positively identified as the suspect behind an armed robbery, where one Abdullahi Mohamoud lost a phone (iPhone 13 Promax) among other valuables on November 2, along the bypass close to South-C.

The juvenile is currently in custody being processed for arraignment.

“We thank the two KWS rangers William Katana and Hilary Kimutai, for their quick action leading to the arrest of the suspect,” DCI concluded.
