18 people who came into contact with Makueni’s first Covid-19 case have been traced and quarantined at Makindu quarantine center. Makueni County Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana revealed. He said another unknown number of people who came into contact with them will also be traced and put into quarantine to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Kibwana who spoke to the media at his office in Wote town said the first Covid-19 patient has been isolated at Makueni Covid-19 center which is within Makueni County referral hospital.
“The patient is a 35-year-old man who had been working at Konza Techno City and a resident of Malili market which is along Nairobi-Mombasa highway. He told us he had some contacts with the people from the neighboring county of Machakos. We will work hand in hand with the County government of Machakos to trace them and put into isolation,” Kibwana said.
Those quarantined include the patient’s close friends, his workmates at Konza Techno City, and other people from Malili town who he has been living close to him.
The Makueni County boss added that the samples from the 18 contacts who are at the isolation center will be collected and taken to Machakos for testing. He said the Makindu quarantine center has a capacity of 300 beds but will be increased to 700 beds in anticipation of more cases.
Kibwana promised that the Makueni Covid-19 emergency response committee will work hard to ensure the entire Malili market will be fumigated to curb the possibility of the spread of the dangerous virus.
