According to the Somali government, 25 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in a coordinated operation including army and local troops in the central areas.

This follows violence on Tuesday and Wednesday, which resulted in the deaths of five Galmudug State militants linked to the federal government, according to a statement from the Ministry of Information.

“On our side, the commander of Galmudug’s Horseed Battalion, Mohamed Ali, was among those who lost their valuable lives,” the statement read, adding that the majority of the combat took place in Aad Village in Mudug district.

Over the last two months, the Somali army has collaborated with Galmudug State forces to launch military offensives against Al-Shabaab strongholds in Mugug, capturing crucial towns like Ba’aadweyn and Qay’ad.

The soldiers are closing in on Haradhere, a former hub known for harboring Somali pirates but now held by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab militia.

The Somali government announced on Monday that it has killed hundreds of terrorist extremists in recent operations.

“Operations against the terrorists were carried out in several regions, including Hiran, Middle Shabelle, Lower Shabelle, Lower Jubba, and Mudug, resulting in the control of five cities and sixteen villages,” according to the statement.
