The Judicial Service Commission has nominated Court of Appeal Judge Mohamed Abdullahi Warsame for appointment as a judge of the Supreme Court, pending formal appointment by President William Ruto.
Chief Justice Martha Koome announced the nomination shortly after the conclusion of the interviews.
“I am therefore pleased to announce that the Judicial Service Commission has nominated the Honourable Mr Justice Mohamed Abdullahi Warsame for appointment to the Supreme Court of Kenya,” she stated.
Under Article 166(1)(b) of the Constitution, the President appoints Supreme Court judges based on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission, with the appointment formalised through a Gazette Notice.
Justice Warsame was among the final candidates to appear before the commission on Wednesday, April 29, and was nominated hours after his interview.
He has been serving as a Judge of the Court of Appeal since 2012. Prior to that, he served as a High Court judge in both the Commercial and Criminal Divisions and also headed the Judicial Review Division.
Warsame holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
