A total of 25 individuals have been arrested in connection with the destruction of public property during protests held on June 25, 2025, in Kikuyu town, Kiambu County.
The demonstrations, which marked the first anniversary of the 2024 Gen Z-led anti-Finance Bill movement, spiralled into chaos as protesters set fire to multiple government installations. Among the facilities torched were the Kikuyu Law Courts, Sub-County offices, and several government vehicles, tractors, and tuk-tuks.
In swift response, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched a full-scale probe into the incident. The suspects were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Ruiru Law Courts, where officers secured a 14-day custodial order to allow for the completion of investigations.

Authorities have since recovered several items believed to have been looted during the rampage, including two steel windows, a steel door, and a water tank. These were found abandoned in a bushy area between Mai-ii-hii and Kabete.
According to the police, more suspects are being pursued, with investigators following new leads aimed at ensuring all those involved in the destruction are held accountable.
In a strongly worded statement, the National Police Service cautioned the public against turning peaceful demonstrations into acts of lawlessness. “We urge Kenyans to exercise restraint. Destruction of public property undermines the rule of law and will not be tolerated. Offenders will face the full force of the law,” the statement read.
The protests saw isolated flare-ups in several hotspots across the country, reigniting debate about the limits of lawful assembly and the responsibility of demonstrators to maintain peace.
