An earthquake shook the northeastern United States on Friday morning.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but federal and local officials cautioned about possible aftershocks.
According to the US Geological Survey, the 4.8 magnitude quake struck 7 kilometers north of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, about 50 miles west of New York City, at a depth of 4.7 kilometers.
It was felt as far south as Washington, D.C. and north as Boston.
Ground stops were issued at several airports, including Newark, JFK, and BWI Airport in Maryland, as crews assessed any potential structural damage.
According to New Jersey Transit, rail service was delayed in both directions by up to 20 minutes “due to bridge inspections” following the earthquake.
