5 Kenyan and 6 Tanzanian Truck drivers test positive for covid-19 in Uganda

Five Kenyan and six Tanzanian truck drivers are part of new 11 cases announced in Uganda on Thursday, April 23.

According to Uganda’s Ministry of Health, the drivers arrived via Mutukula border post while the Kenyans arrived via Malaba and Busia border post.

We tested a total of 1331 samples taken from community and quarantibe centers and from truck drivers at border points of entry,” Dr Henry Mwebesa,Director General of health services in Uganda said.

“None of the cases had signs and symptoms of Covid-19,” he said in a statement.

On Sunday President Yoweri Museveni urged Ugandans to avoid coming in to contact with truck drivers unnecessarily and urged police to ensure the drivers are not allowed to mingle of the public while on their routes.

Uganda has a total of 74 confirmed cases and 46 recoveries, no deaths have been recorded.
