Finally, the Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza took the stand on the final day of the Senate Special Committee hearing on Wednesday evening, December 28, after initially declining to testify in the impeachment case against her.
While the governor stood firm in her denial of the charges, she found it difficult to answer some questions with the precision required in the examination process.
Muthomi Thiankolu, the Lead Counsel representing Meru County Assembly, posed several questions to the governor as he attempted to prove his side’s case.
One of the outstanding questions from the Assembly’s lawyer demanded that Mwangaza clarify her position on a disputed plot of land that pitted the governor against the leadership of the Catholic Diocese of Meru.
The governor also appeared to struggle when answering a question about Baite TV’s ownership.
Mwangaza was also tasked with substantiating her earlier remarks that she had done everything in her power to foster harmony among all leaders in the county.
The governor was also pressed to explain why she dismissed the members of the former County Executive Committee.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna also asked for clarification on the governor’s earlier claim about her public appointment of firefighters.
