8-0: Ruthless Newcastle Hands Sheffield Worst Beating In History

Newcastle United thrashed Sheffield United 8-0 to add to their agony, becoming the first side in Premier League history to have eight different goal scorers.

Sean Longstaff’s excellent finish gave the visitors the lead after 21 minutes. Anthony Gordon, an early substitute, performed well down the left flank to keep the ball in play before finding Longstaff, who shot home.

Only eight minutes later, Eddie Howe’s side increased their lead, with Dan Burn on hand at the back post to head home Kieran Trippier’s corner.

Less than five minutes later and Newcastle had a third and it was another set-piece. Trippier fired in a free-kick from the right-hand side which Sven Botman was able to head home past Wes Foderingham.

Newcastle picked up where they left off in the second half, with Callum Wilson making it four 10 minutes into the second half. Trippier fired in a great ball for his third assist of the match and Wilson was there to head home.

Gordon got the goal his performance deserved after 61 minutes with the pick of the bunch. The winger cut in from the left-hand side before curling a low effort into the bottom corner past Foderingham.

Eddie Howe’s side made it 6-0 on 68 minutes, this time Bruno Guimaraes threading a delightful ball towards Miguel Almiron who calmly slotted home.

Guimaraes went from provider to scorer just five minutes later, picking up the ball in the penalty area following a deflection before calmly lifting his effort into the top corner.

And Alexander Isak latched onto a terrible back header from Tom Davies before coolly slotting home to make it 8-0 and complete the rout.
