Raila Odinga Makes U-Turn: Calls for Justice Before Dialogue

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has now emphasized that justice must come first before any talks can begin.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief stressed that several key issues must be addressed before a national conversation can take place.

Odinga’s demands include compensation for all victims of police brutality, dismissal of protest-related cases, release of abductees and those in jail, resolution of outstanding healthcare and education grievances, and prosecution of security sector perpetrators who have facilitated atrocities against peaceful Kenyans.

“The youth have shown remarkable dedication to the cause, and it is our duty to ensure that their voices are heard,” Odinga said.

“We must come together to discuss critical issues affecting our nation, including good governance, the skyrocketing cost of living, eradicating tribalism, fighting corruption, and debt and fiscal management.”

The former Prime Minister proposed a representative group comprising youth, government officials, religious leaders, healthcare professionals, lawyers, and teachers to engage in a transparent and neutral venue to address these pressing issues.

Raila believes that a structured dialogue will bring about the reforms the youth are fighting for and safeguard Kenya’s future.

Odinga’s statement comes amid ongoing protests and demonstrations across the country, with many Kenyans calling for political reforms and an end to police brutality.

The opposition leader’s call for justice and dialogue has been met with widespread condemnation from the Gen Z, who have said the Opposition veteran is looking for a way into Government.

This is after it was revealed that Azimio will form part of President Ruto’s new cabinet.

Ruto announced 11 cabinet secretaries and said the rest would be filled later. His list includes six of his former colleagues; Rebecca Miano (Attorney General), Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Aden Duale (Defense), Soipan Tuya (Environment) and Alice Wahome (Lands).
