Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Kisii Central recovered a substantial cache of explosives and apprehended two suspects following a swift intelligence operation.
The arrest took place Monday afternoon along Kisii-Oyugis Road when officers flagged down a trailer carrying the individuals.
According to the DCI’s statement, the two male suspects, aged 28 and 49, were found in possession of three cartons containing 459 pieces of water gel explosives (V6) and two detonating cords.
The explosives were cleverly concealed, highlighting the need for ongoing vigilance in the region.
Water gel explosives, known for their safety and efficiency, have increasingly become the preferred choice for civil blasting operations worldwide.
Composed of an aqueous ammonium nitrate solution that acts as an oxidizer, these explosives are less toxic and more stable than traditional dynamite, making them easier to transport, store, and use.
The DCI has stated that the suspects are currently being held at Mosocho Police Station while investigations continue. Legal proceedings are in preparation, and both the explosives and the trailer will be retained as exhibits.
