Bata Shoe Company has released an official statement following the sudden death of employee Joshua Muthoka, who collapsed and died while at work on Saturday, October 26.

The company extended condolences to Muthoka’s family, expressing deep sadness over his passing.

In its statement, Bata addressed reports by Nation Media Group, disputing claims that Muthoka’s health concerns were ignored.

Nation Media reported that Muthoka had asked for an off day due to chest pains on October 25 but was denied and continued working the next day.

Bata’s Managing Director, Benson Okumu, clarified that Muthoka had reported stomach pain on October 26 and was immediately escorted to the onsite clinic, where he was attended to by medical personnel.

According to the company, he collapsed within minutes of his arrival at the clinic and was promptly transferred to Tigoni Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

The company emphasized its commitment to employee health and safety, noting that it conducts regular audits and provides an onsite clinic staffed by medical professionals.

Bata urged the media to verify facts to avoid unnecessary distress to Muthoka’s family and the company.
