The main suspect in the tragic death of 22-year-old Amos Sang has been apprehended following a nationwide manhunt.
Robert Cheruiyot, whose alleged brutal actions were captured in a now-viral video on social media, is currently in custody at Ruaraka Police Station. An accomplice has also been detained at Longisa Police Station as investigations intensify.
The harrowing incident unfolded on October 31 when Cheruiyot reportedly confronted Sang at his residence in Teduet village, located in the Chemaner area of Bomet County, accusing the young man of stealing his chickens. Eyewitness reports describe how the confrontation quickly escalated into a horrific assault.
Witnesses claim that Cheruiyot forcibly took Sang from his home and subjected him to extreme violence. The most alarming allegation is that Sang was hanged using a chain attached to a pulley, a method that rendered him unconscious. In a shocking series of events, Cheruiyot allegedly returned the lifeless victim to his home in that state, leaving him in grave danger.
Tragically, Sang succumbed to his injuries soon after the assault, and his death was confirmed at Longisa Referral Hospital, where his body is currently being held in the morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Authorities conducted a thorough search at Cheruiyot’s residence, recovering crucial evidence that could play a significant role in the investigation. Items seized include the alleged pulley and chain used in the assault, as well as an empty jerrycan believed to have contained diesel, which reports suggest may have been used during the torture. Additionally, investigators found clothing at the victim’s residence that was soaked in diesel, further implicating the suspects in this grisly crime.
As the investigation continues, the suspects are expected to be arraigned to face appropriate charges. This tragic case has sparked outrage in the community and beyond as calls for justice grow louder. Residents of Bomet County are demanding swift action from law enforcement, highlighting the need for accountability in incidents of such brutal violence.
As the story unfolds, the community remains in mourning for Amos Sang, a young life tragically cut short, while the legal process begins for those accused of his untimely death.
