Advocate Danstan Omari has vehemently defended NIS Director General, Mr. Noordin Haji after petitioners dragged his name into the current abductions.
According to Advocate Omari, the act of petitioners dragging the name of Director General for National Intelligence Service in Court is far-fetched as his office only deals with intelligence gathering and has got no powers to abduct or detain anybody for that matter.
Lawyer Omari in defending the NIS Director General said that the NIS is an entity that cannot be sued because its constitutional mandate deals with pure intelligence collection unlike what the petitioners might allude in their allegations.
Advocate Omari said that the petitioners went overboard by suing the NIS Director given the fact that the powers of the NIS are purely to gather intelligence hence trying to bring Director Haji in the abduction case was completely out of place.
“NIS has no role in internal security, NIs has no role in terms of investigation, NIS has nothing into this matter.” Said Advocate Danstan Omari.
