A six-year-old boy tragically lost his life in Pipeline, Nairobi, after choking on a mango seed.
According to police and family members, the child had received the mango from a neighbor on Monday afternoon.
While eating, he suddenly developed breathing difficulties. Alarmed by his distress, his friends called for help, prompting neighbors to rush him to a nearby hospital.
However, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, citing asphyxiation from the mango seed as the likely cause.
His body was later transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital’s mortuary. Authorities have scheduled a postmortem to confirm the exact cause of death.
His devastated parents are now awaiting further details from the investigation.
Construction worker falls to death from 16th floor in Parklands
Meanwhile, in Parklands, a construction worker identified as Joseph Ochieng, 28, lost his life after falling from the 16th floor of a building under construction.
According to police reports, Ochieng was preparing column kickers when he accidentally slipped and plunged to the ground. Witnesses said he died instantly from the impact.
Nairobi police commander George Sedah confirmed that officers processed the scene before moving the body to the mortuary for an autopsy. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
This latest accident highlights ongoing concerns over worker safety in the construction sector.
Officials from the police, county government, and the National Construction Authority have been reviewing similar incidents in an effort to prevent future tragedies.
