Gov’t to Spend Kshs.44.7 Billion on Talanta Stadium

The Government will spend Kshs.44.7 billion on the construction of the Talanta Sports Complex, the Ministry of Defense has revealed.

Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Sports and Culture, Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya stated that Kshs.2 billion has already been disbursed to the Chinese firm contracted for the project, which currently stands at 37% completion. The stadium is projected to be ready by February 28, 2026.

CS Tuya also briefed MPs on ongoing renovations in preparation for the CHAN and AFCON tournaments.

Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, will undergo a Kshs.3.6 billion first-phase upgrade for the CHAN games in August, followed by a Kshs.3.1 billion second phase to meet AFCON standards.

Nyayo Stadium is receiving Kshs.1.1 billion in renovations, with Kshs.200 million already paid. Eldoret’s Kipchoge Keino Stadium will cost Kshs.3.5 billion, with Kshs.300 million spent to date.

The CS disclosed that Police Sacco Stadium and Ulinzi Sports Complex have cost Kshs.582 million and Kshs.490 million respectively, as they are being upgraded to serve as training grounds.

CS Tuya emphasized the importance of the championships to Kenya’s image and economy. “This is national pride with economic returns,” she said, urging fans to respect the facilities and avoid vandalism.
